Spectral Theory and the Min-Max Theorem

Abstract

The min-max theorem offers a variational characterization of the discrete eigenvalues that lie below the essential spectrum of a self-adjoint operator. In this paper, we develop the necessary tools to state and ultimately prove this theorem.
